Amitabh Kant, CEO, Niti Ayog to be the Chief Guest
India Pulses and Grains Association (IPGA), the nodal body for India’s pulses trade and industry, is all set to lead and host virtual celebrations on the 4th World Pulses Day on behalf of India conveying a global message of “Go Green with Pulse Protein”. The event is slated to bring together international audiences for a common goal of creating awareness of the benefits of pulses as well as to play a catalytic role to increase consumption and highlight the role of pulses as the most sustainable crop in the world.
IPGA will be hosting a live event on Thursday, February 10, 2022 from 3 pm IST with Shri. Amitabh Kant, CEO, Niti Ayog as the Chief Guest, Dr S K Malhotra – Agriculture Commissioner, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Mr. Sunil Kumar Singh, Additional Managing Director, NAFED as key note speakers. Mr. Jitu Bheda, Chairman, IPGA said, “World Pulses Day is observed yearly on the 10th of February. In the current year 2022, it would be the 4th time when World Pulses Day will be observed. It was determined by the United Nations to celebrate World Pulses Day to express the worth, value and benefits of pulses. India Celebrates “World Pulses Day” or “Antarashtriya Dalhan Diwas” to spread awareness regarding the numerous health benefits pulses have to offer and promote the consumption of pulses across the country. IPGA will be hosting a World Pulses Day event so that government, industry, trade, members across the globe from various partner associations as well as farmers and consumers can be a part of the global celebration. We have released a slogan “Go Green with Pulse Protein” to commensurate the event which will also be observed across by our regional and foreign partner associations.”
Mr. Bimal Kothari, Vice Chairman – IPGA said, “The increase in production and consumption of pulses across the country would align with the Honourable Prime Minister, Shri Narendraji Modi’s vision of sustainable development of the pulses industry and trade, thereby providing an impetus to India’s commerce and Industry. It would also be conducive for environmental sustainability. As the world’s largest producer and consumer of pulses, it is only fitting for India to play a major role in promoting and highlighting this important agriculture commodity sector. The Government of India has ear-marked the pulses sector as a priority sector. The event will highlight the global role in pulses sector as well as the new opportunities.”
The event will talk in depth and highlight importance of pulses. Increased consumption of pulses should be an integral part of the daily diet of the Indian population which is predominantly a vegetarian diet. Promoting the consumption of pulses and spreading awareness regarding the nutritional quotient of pulses would largely help counter issues such as malnutrition and other health issues caused by a protein deficient diet.
