Born on March 1, 1990, in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, Rakesh grew up in a disciplined and value-driven family. His father, Hemant Kumar Upadhyay, served as an administrative officer in the Irrigation Department, while his mother, Indu Devi, is a homemaker.
He completed his early education at Saraswati Shishu Mandir, Gorakhpur. From a young age, he showed strong interest not only in academics but also in fitness training, dholak playing, and shooting—laying the foundation for his multidimensional personality.
Academic Excellence Without Coaching
Rakesh began his engineering journey in 2007 at Northern India Engineering College, Lucknow, where he pursued B.Tech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and graduated in 2011 with 73.7%.
Demonstrating exceptional dedication, he cracked the GATE examination in 2012 without any coaching, securing an All India Rank of 2616 with a 98 percentile. He later completed his M.Tech in Control Systems from National Institute of Technology Patna in 2014 with 72.01%.

As a Professor, Rakesh Kumar Upadhyay has dedicated over 7–8 years to teaching in various government and private engineering institutions in Gorakhpur, including Madan Mohan Malaviya University of Technology.
